The Garage Group recently welcomed Alex Thomas to the team as our Operations Administrator. Alex is a seasoned professional who brings her passion for developing processes and efficiencies into the role. Below, we asked her some questions to get to know her a little better.
Welcome to the TGG team! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am originally from the Southside of Chicago and the oldest of 3, I have a sister and brother. My entire childhood was spent playing sports – I played shortstop in softball and was on the crew (rowing) team. I absolutely love movies from all genres except horror! I can’t do scary movies, I have terrible nightmares. Beauty is a passion of mine, I always have lipstick with me. I love to cook and pair my meals with great wine. One of my dreams is to become a Master Sommelier! When I am not spending time with my family, I love traveling with my friends.
My career has spanned the gamut of retail, event management, executive support and work in the startup and non-profit sectors. The foundation to the work that I have done is rooted in service and servant leadership. I strive to ensure that the organizations I work with are enriched because of my work and my colleagues can grow from my support. I am currently attending the University of Louisville to obtain a degree in Organizational Leadership & Learning.
What is your role, and responsibilities within that role?
I am the Operations Administrator. My responsibilities vary but my core focus will be on supporting the Ops team with legal, HR, reporting on key company metrics, and administrative help. I’m excited to also use my event planning background to produce Courageous Minds Only events, conference preparation, and team events. I love to bring order to everything I touch so I look forward to finding efficiencies, developing processes, and optimizing systems.
What drew you to working with TGG?
There is an authentic joy around the way everyone talks about the work they do and the people they work with. The people of TGG bring a warm, hard working and inviting atmosphere to the table everyday and that is what resonated the most with me. I enjoy connecting with like minded people who bring 100% of themselves to work everyday.
How do you best face uncertain challenges in your life?
I face uncertainty with an open mind and open heart. I have had to pivot in many areas of my life so being flexible and committed to working through challenges has helped me see the broader picture even when I wasn’t sure if it would all work out.
