Fueling Innovation in Less Than 3 Weeks

Challenge

Two months from customer sell in, leadership challenged the Masterbrand’s innovation plans for the upcoming launch, and asked them to go bigger. The team didn’t have ~18 months (the typical timeline needed) to uncover consumer needs, identify ownable white space,  ideate on breakthrough new product offerings, and prep go-to-market plans.  

Approach

With 1 week of onboarding and knowledge sharing, The Garage Group partnered with an in-house, cross-functional business team to run a custom-designed, 10-day Sprint. We uncovered Jobs to be Done available for solving, prioritized the Jobs most ripe for the Masterbrand to solve, and used those Jobs to build the foundational architecture. Once each sub-brand’s role in the portfolio was clear, we identified whitespace for new innovation. We used external inspiration to divergently ideate new paths forward, and pressure-tested all ideas with consumers. We translated top ideas into concepts, and fielded quick-turn qual and quant Learning Loops for pre-validation ahead of BASES.   

During the 10-Day Sprint, we put our Lean Growth Playbook to use. 

Results

Impact

The Masterbrand team walked away with a “Where to Play, How to Win” strategy rooted in consumer Jobs to be Done, a pipeline of ideas, and consumer optimized, BASES-ready concepts. The first product in the pipeline launched within 12 months post Sprint.
